As you enter this land you here sounds of water and a fast moving river. Mountains surround the land and the road only goes another 1 km, it is a hidden valley outside of Luang Prabang.
This land was carefully chosen for an integrated farm because of its year round supply of clean water, making it ideal for aquaculture. Prior to creating the farm the land was well managed as rice and grazing pasture. There was no sign of erosion and top soil was found to depths over a meter. The farm is bordered on its upper slope by an irrigation canal (300m) and the lower elevations by a small river (140m). The water sources from a hydroelectric plant located 1km upstream. The site was also unique in its proximity to an urban center (Luang Prabang) at a distance of 7km, a 20 min. drive from Mekong and Luang Prabang.
This property was intentionally designed as an integrated farm combining poultry, swine, and fish and therefore the gardens are planted in foods suitable for all three animal groups. The poultry shed is built on a fish pond dike allowing recycling of grains and waste. A bio-digester was built central to the swine shed and all the wastes and excess feeds can be recycled to the fish ponds.
The land is big enough to extend professionally with farming and private property expansion if new owner wishes to live there in bigger house.
Thinking about a new owner the picture clearly moved towards a personality that wants to live a natural life outside the modern world, but with easy link to the pure Asian and Lao culture here in Luang Prabang. The three large ponds totaling 1.1 hectare are equipped with concrete monks and storm drainage. The 2 fingerling ponds have standing pipe drainage. There are 3 smaller shallow ponds with concrete outlets leading into fish ponds. These are suitable for culturing feed for the poultry and fish (eg. Duckweed). Fish holding tank, 12 meter square.
The swine house, 200 m2, is built on top of a biodigester and all floors sloped to drain into the biodigester which can accommodate 60-70 animal. The biodigester had a holding tank and drains to directly to the large pond along the river. Two stainless water tanks 2400cc are mounted at 3 meter elevation within the pig house and are supplied by gravity.
A poultry house 150 m sq. is built over a pond dike.
A two level house is built with concrete, tile on the first level, and hardwoods on the second level. Toilet drains to the biodigester.
The land has been planted extensively with banana, papaya, mango and lime. Perennials including sweet potato, bean, leaucaena, and cassava are planted throughout. Electric supply mounted on 5meter poles, 220 volt.
